Thursday, Spetember 17--Barron at Home Against Cumberland

On Thursday, September 17th, Cumberland traveled to Barron's turf for the much-anticipated rematch between the Bears and the Beavers. The last time the two teams met, the Beavers squeaked out a win in double overtime by scoring on a penalty kick on a hand-ball call with three minutes to go in the second overtime. The Bears were looking forward to redeeming themselves on their home field.

The game got off to a bad start before the first ball was kicked, however, when our leading offensive player, Ali Awale, was benched for breaking school rules and being tardy for school. Morale on the fan sidelines was knocked down further when Cumberland scored a goal within the first two and a half minutes of play!

Barron quickly came around, though, and was rewarded with a goal scored by Tino Becker to bring the score back to a tie. The game waged back and forth for the remainder of the game, but the final score when the clock ran out was Barron:1, Cumberland:1. Another tie, another overtime! At the end of the ten minute overtime, no one had yet scored, so into the second overtime we went. It was like de'ja vu! Fortunately, there were no "cheap" penalty calls during this second overtime, and the final score at the end of double overtime was still Barron:1, Cumberland:1. The game ended in a tie.
